Boy, what a wild five days I have had. It started out on Milwaukee on Thursday. I was a presenter at the Bi-annual convention of music educators. (MENC) My presentation was at 8:00am on Friday morning. My expectations were low, since many musicians are not morning people. Well, to my surprise, the room was standing room only, with over 100 people. This is a national conference so it was exciting to meet many teachers from across the country. I was also honored, that Mr. Don Golden (SRS band director) was my presider.
On Monday, two Golden Apple representatives came for the day to watch me teach, and interview teachers, parents, students, adminatration, and ME!
They watched a sixth grade class doing a project called “Get Emotion,” they select a emotion, take pictures, and then compose a GarageBand song to go along with the feeling they selected.
The second class was a fourth grade class compose songs for their band instrument using Sibelius.
Finally, the third class was the seventh and eighth grade elective class – MIDI Lab. Students create projects in the lab using all the tech toys and programs they choose.
After interviewing the parents, students, and administration, they watched the HONK! rehearsal, the show SRS is producing this year. It was wonderful to show off Sunset Ridge School and the wonderful students, engaging parents, and supportive staff. Even if I don’t win, I’m still a winner – I teach at Sunset Ridge:)
